Residential dumpster rental directory
This is a small homeowner directory for residential roll-off dumpsters. Each city page covers three practical questions: which size fits the job, whether the city requires a street / right-of-way permit, and what typical published 7-day prices look like from labeled sources. We do not invent municipal fees or rental quotes.
Footprint today: 49 U.S. cities (first 10 research set, Dallas as a driveway-only / street-ban exception, plus Denver, Charlotte, Phoenix, Portland, Austin, Chicago, Columbus, and Cincinnati, and — added October 7, 2026 — New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Boston, San Francisco, Detroit, Baltimore, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Louisville, Albuquerque, and Richmond, and — added October 13, 2026 — Indianapolis, San Jose, Fort Worth, New Orleans, Cleveland, Oakland, Tucson, Long Beach, Honolulu, Jersey City, Miami Beach, Providence, Madison, Cambridge, and Hoboken) plus comparison guides (size, permits, who pulls the permit, and 7-day quote checklist). Homeowner FAQs
- Do I always need a city permit for a dumpster?
- Usually it depends on placement. A box in the public street, sidewalk, shoulder, or other right-of-way typically needs a municipal permit. Private driveway rules are city-specific — only some cities publish an explicit driveway exception. Use the permit-by-city table and your city page; do not assume a national “driveway = free” rule.
- Which dumpster size should a homeowner start with?
- Many residential jobs land on a 20-yard for volume (cleanouts, kitchen guts). Heavy material — concrete, dirt, brick, shingles — often belongs in a smaller 10-yard so the weight cap is not blown. See the size guide for dimensions and weight-vs-yards notes.
- Are the prices on these pages live quotes?
- No. City pages show sourced published ranges with each source labeled separately. They are research snapshots, not a quote from a hauler. Call for a current local price that matches your debris type, tonnage, and delivery window.
- Who usually pulls the street permit — me or the hauler?
- It varies by city and by company. Some haulers include permit handling; others expect the homeowner or contractor to apply. Your city page lists the municipal path we found; see also the homeowner vs hauler guide. Confirm with both the city and the hauler before delivery day.
- Why is Dallas listed differently?
- Dallas is included as a street-ban / driveway-only exception: city guidance says dumpsters are not allowed in the public right-of-way. That is not the same as a normal “apply for a street permit” city. Read the Dallas page before planning curb placement.
